Mixed Hues

Hey there! Thanks so much for dropping by and welcome to Mixed Hues. I'm Annabelle, the girl behind it all.

I started Mixed Hues as a way to express myself through my style while talking about issues that matter to me. Here, you'll find lots of content designed to tell my unique story while inspiring and empowering you. I hope that in reading my blog, you feel a little less alone and a lot more empowered to be your best self.

I like clean, editorial type shots when it comes to my content. As such, I've had to figure out how to model. I used to dance when I was younger, which helped me avoid some common mistakes people tend to make when modeling. Even so, I was definitely camera shy for awhile and I still can be even now, especially when working with a photographer I don't know too well. Over time, I've improved a lot.

A few of you have been asking me for advice on modeling, so in this blog post, I'll be sharing advice on how to pose and common mistakes to avoid. I'm also going to dissect a few poses of mine to explain how I made them work.

experiencing fetishization as a woc and dealing with it

As an Asian woman of color, I’ve dated men who fetishized and exoticized me because of my race. I’ve had my personhood reduced to a checkmark on various men’s metaphorical “fuckit” lists.

dare to be powerful: embracing your "muchness"

Recently, I’ve noticed that I and the other women in my life often shy away from our “muchness.” We make ourselves small in order to take up less space.

Dissecting the internalized misogyny of millennial pink

When I tell you that as a little girl, I used to hate the color pink, that doesn’t seem important. But if I tell you that I hated it because I thought it was a “girly” color, that’s weird.

Stand tall with stripes and jumpsuits this summer

This summer, I’m crushing on bright colors, stripes and jumpsuits, so when I saw this jumpsuit at Urban Outfitters for 30% off PLUS my $5 off coupon… I had to have it.

confidence is key with isonia

Confidence is a tricky thing sometimes, but this outfit, paired with these beautiful pieces from Isonia, made me feel like a princess. But like a spicy one.

twist on a trend: denim culottes

I refuse to admit that it’s getting cold here at Penn State, but if I’m being honest with myself, I definitely won’t have many more chances to wear shorts.

Refreshing my eyes with VII Code’s eye masks

I spend a LOT of time using my eyes. During the day, I’m on my phone constantly, replying to Instagram comments and sending hundreds of texts to make sure events are all set. As a result, I take my shut eye very seriously.

living lively with girl boss brand, lively

It’s hard when there are beautiful people out there, but it is so important to love yourself and start lifting others up alongside yourself instead of constantly feeling jealous of other’s beauty, brains, success, etc.

5 things I've learned and 5 things I'm leaving behind in 2017

This past year has been kind of exhausting, honestly. 19 was confusing enough and then I turned 20 a few months ago in September and honestly, I’ve just been getting more confused about life ever since.
